Visible from many of the windows of Lisheen Castle, the Devil’s Bit hillwalk brings the walker on a moderate effort 5km walk through sandy lane-ways, forestry tracks and hillside paths to enjoy amazing views across to the Galtee Mountains. You will also visit some historic sites along the way such as an ancient mass rock; a remnant of a time when Catholics were forced to practise their religion in secret.

Guided Group Hillwalks in Upperchurch, Co. Tipperary
Activities and AdventuresA selection of wonderful hillwalks are on offer from Upperchurch, only 27km from Lisheen Castle. These walks have been created to allow the walker to enjoy the wonderful countryside and untouched natural beauty of the area. Walks range from 2km to 6km looped walks, and a guide who will tell some interesting tales of legendary characters of the area including a Robin Hood style figure “Eamonn a Chnoic” or “Ned of the Hill” can be arranged for groups on request.
Glengarra Wood
Activities and AdventuresIf you are interested in nature, woodland, wildlife or just walking, then Glengarra Wood is an ideal place to visit during your stay. It is situated less than 1 hour’s drive from Lisheen Castle, and extends upwards on the southern slopes of the Galtee Mountains. Parts of the woodland have been developed to cater for visitors. The facilities provided include car parking, 5km of pathways, log bridges, picnic tables, and information boards providing the names of the different tree species, etc. There are many fine specimen trees, including the giant California Redwood, which were planted during the time when the area was part of the Lismore estate. In the early summer, the rhododendron flowers make a fine display. There are two way marked walking routes on offer at the Glengarra Woods. An easy 2km route and a more challenging 7km route, the Millennium Route allows the walker some stunning views of the southern lying lowlands and the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Glen of Aherlow
Activities and AdventuresThe Glen of Aherlow is a quiet country valley, secluded but not isolated. It stretches south of the famed town of Tipperary, through sixteen miles of unspoilt countryside affording some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. 
The Glen sits between the Galtee Mountains on the South and the Slievenamuck Ridge on the North. The Galtees, Ireland’s highest inland mountain range, boast five spectacular corrie lakes, dominated by a variety of magnificent peaks Galteemore at 3,018 ft. The many streams cascading down the face of the mountain further enhance this expansive vista. 
The foothills are forested, as is the entire 12 miles of the Slievenamuck ridge, providing the walker with a variety of delightful woodland trails. The mountain climber and serious hill walker will enjoy ample challenge on the upper slopes of the Galtee Range.

Angling

Activities and AdventuresThe River Suir rises in the Devils Bit Mountains and flows through the limestone country of South Tipperary and North Waterford. Its physical characteristics provide an ideal habitat for salmon and trout. Grilse runs begin in late June through to the end of September, when the season ends. The river Suir has all the characteristics of a chalk stream and therefore produces trout in abundance ranging in size from 400g to 1kg. The large numbers present prosper because of the ideal nature of the habitat and the absence of any serious predators and lack of competition for food. The Suir is renowned as a dry-fly fishery. Access to the river is excellent. Visitors may purchase permits from any of the associations and most of the private fisheries on the river.The Salmon and Trout season opens on the 17th March and closes on the 30th September. Horse Racing

Ireland’s South East is well known for its equestrian industry with  world renowned stud farms such as Coolmore Stud and trainers such as Aidan O’Brien creating a name on the global stage for Irish and Tipperary horses and horse racing.There are some fantastic racecourses on offer in the greater Tipperary area at which you can enjoy the thrills and adrenaline rushes that is Irish Horse Racing. Activities and AdventuresThurles Racecourse is an oval right-handed track of one and a quarter miles, it is located approximately 15 minutes drive from LisheenCastle. There are 6 flights of hurdles and 7 steeplechase fences in each circuit. Principally this is a steeplechase jumping track, though a small number of flat races are held. Racing takes place in the winter months generally from late October to the end of March.
Gowran Park
Activities and AdventuresIf somebody asked you to put a racecourse anywhere in Ireland the chances are you would set it down in Gowran Park. Located in the center of wooded parkland, Gowran Park is the only grade 1 racecourse in the South East. 16 top quality national hunt and flat meetings are held here each year, all year round. Gowran Park provides modern facilities in the heart of racing country offer a great location from which to enjoy the excitement and spectacle of a day at the races.
Clonmel Racecourse
Activities and AdventuresClonmel Racecourse (Powerstown Park) has been a popular venue for horse racing for more than 150 years. 
The racecourse is a right-handed track of one and a quarter miles. It is recognized as a demanding National Hunt course with a stiff uphill climb followed by a gradual downhill run with an uphill finish. Viewing of racing from all points in the enclosure is exceptional. An abundance of mature trees and shrubs enhance the aesthetic quality of the 160-acre racecourse environment. Renowned trainers like Aiden O’ Brien attend many of our races. The town of Clonmel is a very historic and interesting town, which lies at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains and is situated in the valley of the broad and beautiful river Suir. Views of the Comeragh Mountains can be clearly seen from the racecourse.
