Visit Cahir Castle
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of Ireland’s largest and best preserved castles. Cahir castle is a 40 minute drive from Lisheen Castle and is a must visit if you’re staying with us.
The castle is a national monument and is located on a rocky island in the middle of the River Suir. It displays all the skill and ingenuity of medieval craftmanship, and contains one of the very few working portcullises (drop gates) on the island of Ireland. Owned by the Butler family from 1375 to 1961, the present structure dates largely to the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries.
We highly recommend taking the castle tour on your visit – which needs to be booked in advance for groups.
