All over the country people are getting ready to take part in their local festivals for St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate the shamrock and all things Irish.
From the local village parade to the now enormous 5-day St Patrick’s Festival held annually in Dublin the craic will be mighty!
Here we will focus on a nearby traditional music festival which is being held in Kilkenny from the 16 – 19 March; the Kilkenny Tradfest.
Kilkenny Tradfest 16-19 March 2018
For the sixth year running, traditional music, song, and dance will take over Kilkenny City across the St Patrick’s Day weekend. Kilkenny Tradfest will showcase the very best in Irish trad music and folk in a variety of venues all around the city, including Kilkenny Castle, the brand new Medieval Mile Museum, and the stunning St Canice’s Cathedral.
There are both free and ticketed events included in a packed schedule for the biggest edition of the Kilkenny Tradfest yet.
These include workshops for adults and children alike as well as masterclasses in drumming, fiddle and even bouzouki from the phenomenal Donal Lunny.
Among the highlights of the festival will be the Bulmers Trad Trail, which features 70 free gigs spread around the pubs and venues of Kilkenny.
