There are 27 designated heritage towns in Ireland. Over the next year we will be highlighting the heritage towns on this list that are within driving distance of Lisheen Castle.
Beginning with Cashel, this heritage town is located in south Co. Tipperary and has a unique historic character, the town is only 30 minutes drive from Lisheen.
A must visit of course is the iconic Rock of Cashel, one of Ireland’s most spectacular tourist attractions and you can learn all about the history of this site at the Brú Ború Cultural Centre which is located at the foot of the Rock. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]But Cashel has much more to offer that just a visit to the Rock, take in the atmosphere by taking the Cashel Town Trail and visit the local traditional fronted pubs and shops, restaurants and churches. Other attractions to explore nearby are the Cashel Folk Village and Hore Abbey.
A good place to start might be the Cashel Heritage Centre which has has a craft shop, stocking local crafts, including Rossa Pottery and Fearney Castle Cermanics, a large selection of woollen sweaters, hats, scarves, linens, and a wide variety of books can be purchased including Ordnance Survey Maps, CD’s, Tin Whistles, Jewellery and Souvenirs.
