Visit Cobh Co. Cork.

Staying with County Cork on our Irish Heritage Town trail the next town to visit is Cobh. The town is built on a steep hill on Great Island in Cork Harbour, and it’s port was the departure point for more than 2.5 million people who emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. Famously on 11 April 1912 Cobh, then known as Queenstown, was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic as she set out across the Atlantic on her ill-fated maiden voyage.

Cobh is a pretty town and it’s architecture is distinctly Victorian, it is only a 20 minutes from Cork City and a 1.5 hrs drive from Lisheen Castle.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Cobh Heritage Town | Lisheen Castle[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Cobh Heritage Town | Lisheen Castle[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Cobh Heritage Town | Lisheen Castle[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]There are many tourist attractions and historical places of interest to visit in Cobh. A must-visit is The Queenstown Story Heritage Centre which is located in the Victorian Railway station near the town centre and next to the Cobh Cruise Liner Terminal, there is also The Titanic Trail walking tour which departs daily throughout the year.

The wonderful Fota House, Gardens and Wildlife Park, located on the road to Cobh, are not to be missed! Other activities include shore and lake fishing, sailing and other water sports, there are Harbour Boat trips and sea angling excursions also available.
