St. Canice’s Cathedral & Round Tower, Kilkenny
If you are planning a day trip to Kilkenny, one often overlooked gem to visit is the church of Ireland catherdral in Kilkenny.
The cathedral is located on the east side of the river Nore in Kilkenny city, at the top of the Medieval Mile, and stands on the site of a 6th century monastery said to have been founded by St Canice. The present building dates from the 13th century and the neighbouring round tower, from the 9th century is dedicated to St. Canice. This round tower is one of 3 such round towers in the country that can be climbed to the top.

Opening Times for visitors are as follows:
April, May & September
Monday – Saturday: 10am – 5pm last admission 4.30pm
Sunday: 2pm – 5pm last admission 4.30pm
June, July & August
Monday – Saturday: 9am – 6pm last admission 5.30pm
Sunday: 1pm – 6pm
October – March
Monday – Saturday: 10am – 4pm last admission 3.30pm
Sunday: 2pm – 5pm last admission 3.30pm
They advise people to arrive at the Cathedral/Tower at least 1/2 an hour before closing to avoid disappointment. Allowing at lease one hour before closing if you wish to climb the tower and visit the Cathedral
